A bass guitar is a guitar that has a lower sound than other guitars,,, its a guitar that you hear in the backround of a song and it keeps repeating itself… an electric guitar is solid and can be plugged into a speaker system to make it louder… and an acoustic guitar has a hollow inside and i think most people start out on these because it has a fuller sound than an electric guitar that isn’t plugged in. I would start off with an acoustic… good luck!

An acoustic guitar does not need an amp to be heard, where as an electric does need an amp. A Bass is primarily an accompaniment instrument with 4 strings and play 2 octaves below a guitar. Let me suggest you go to your local music dealer, they will be glad to show some of the differences.

Accoustic Guitar-One of the most common guitars, it has 6 strings to be played with a pick or fingers (if you’re doing octaves). Some can be plugged into amplifiers. The middle loudest between Bass, Electric, and Accoustic.

Bass Guitar- the instrument that provides the “heart-beat” for a band, can be pluged into amplifier 5 strings, strummed with fingers, thicker strings, low sounding. The Softest sounding of the three

Electric Guitar-loudest of the three, most reconizable, can be plugged in to amplifier, 6 strings, play same way as accoustic witht the exception of power chords and sweet picking.

That’s the best way I can describe it. So to answer your question, no they are not the same, although the electric and accoustic are the closest related. They are quite different.

Acoustic generally not plugged into anything, but you can get electric acoustic. Acoustic usually means it plays off the basic acoustics of the chords. Electric, is plugged in us play power chords on it, the being plugged in gives it more umph. as for Bass it’s an electric guitar but it has a lower tone and usually four strings instead of the customary 6. if he’s 15 I’ll guess he wants an electric guitar, get ready for some mad classic rock. Also I’d avoid Bass. Usually when some one plays Bass they learn on a regular electric first, it’s way easier that way.

an acoustic has a hollow inside and is a softer and it sounds pretty(:

Just like Val said, a bass guitar is for the low tones that you don’t really hear unless you are listening for. Great examples of what a bass guitar sounds like are from 0:00 to 0:28 of ‘Poison Was the Cure’ by Megadeth, and throughout the song ‘Dawn Patrol,’ also by Megadeth. And don’t worry, if you only listen to those clips of the song, it’s calm and un-metaly :)
An electric guitar is more for lead and rhythmic parts of songs. It can be plugged into an amp, which is essentially a big speaker. With an amp, you can use various sound effects to make the guitar sound different, such as distortion, which is the effect used in the majority of rock songs. But you can also make it sound just like an acoustic.

An acoustic guitar is made of wood, has a hollow body and a fuller tone without the necessity of being plugged into an amp. If you listen to almost anything by Jack Johnson, (i.e: ‘Sitting, Waiting, Wishing,’ ‘Banana Pancakes’) You’ll know what an acoustic sounds like. I am a self-taught guitarist and I learned on an acoustic.

As for which one to buy for your son, it really depends on what he likes to play. If he likes the lower tones of music, go with the bass. If he wants to play lead or rhythm, go with an acoustic or electric. But I’d say if he likes rock music, go with the electric because it is a more versatile instrument.

    Hope I helped!
